Catholic Central sends strong contingent to sectional track

Catholic Central flexes track muscles at regional

Monica Litman, Lauren Reesman, Gavin Foote and Tyler Burzawa each won three events and led the Catholic Central girls and boys track teams to third-place finishes Tuesday in a WIAA Division 3 regional meet at Union Grove High School.

The top four finishers in each event at the regional meet advance to the sectional meet. The Hilltoppers compete Friday in a sectional meet at Princeton. Princeton is two hours northwest of Burlington and roughly an hour west of Fond du Lac.

Litman won the 100-meter dash in 13.57 seconds. She ran with Kelly Aldrich, Laura Klein and Brianna Martin on the Hilltoppers’ first-place 4×200 relay (1:50.31) and with Aldrich, Klein and Martin on the Hilltoppers’ first-place 4×100 relay (52.09).

Cassie Reesman, Alexis Reesman, Kourtney Mulhollon and Kathleen Straube won the 4×800 relay (10:18.49) and Cassie Reesman, Alexis Reesman, Aldrich and Straube won the 4×400 relay (4:15.16).

For the boys, Burzawa, Jake LaForest, Foote and Christian Nicholls won the 4×200 relay (1:34.52) and Zach Frederick, Foote, Nicholls and Burzawa won the 4×100 relay (45.99).

Hertel Novasic, Jake LaForest, Foote and Burzawa won the 4×400 relay (3:33.61), and Sam Joski won the 3,200 (10:34.65).

Lauren Reesman won the wheelchair 100 (32.78), 400 (2:10.44) and shot put (14 feet, 4 inches). Brooke Bleser won the 800 (2:35.54).

Novasic finished second in the 800 (2:04.12) and Caleb Celano finished second in the 200 (25.19). Jessica Kempken finished second in the shot put (26 feet). Trevor Meinholz finished second in the discus (104-09) and third in the shot put (37-10). Joski finished third in the 1,600 (4:47.48).

Aubrey Alderman finished fourth in the 400 (1:14.46) and Cole Kresken finished fourth in the discus (90 feet).

 

Stemper stars at Lake Lawn

Catholic Central High School’s Jeff Stemper is performing as a senior should.

Stemper won individual medalist honors Tuesday at a WIAA Division 3 boys golf regional tournament at Delavan’s Lake Lawn Resort.

Stemper paced the field with a three over par 73 and led the Hilltoppers to a fourth-place team finish.

Catholic Central boys golf coach Matthew DeLorme said this is the second consecutive season the Hilltoppers advanced from the regional to the sectional meet.

Catholic Central plays in a Division 3 sectional tournament June 2 in Fond du Lac at Whispering Springs Golf Course.

“This is the second time Jeff has placed first at regionals – the first time coming as just a freshman three years ago,” DeLorme said.

Stemper, who will attend UW-Green Bay this fall on a golf scholarship, finished with a 35 on the front nine and a 38 on the back.

The Hilltoppers finished with a four-man team score of 371. Martin Luther won the regional (319). The Prairie School of Wind Point finished second (326) and Williams Bay finished third (368).

Catholic Central’s Bryce Hocking shot a 97, and John Pum finished at 100. Jack DeSmidt shot a 101, and Sean Kramer carded a 10
