Area business will gain solar panels

The City of Burlington Plan Commission got a simple answer Tuesday night when they asked Burlington Fireplace and Heating owner Richard Hendrickson why he wanted to install a solar panel at the business.

“It’s going to reduce my electric bill,” said Hendrickson, who later got unanimous approval for the site plan with that addition from a bare-bones Plan Commission.

Alderman Ruth Dawidziak and commission members Darrel Eisenhardt and Chris Reesman were all that were in attendance, just enough to create a quorum.

The 9.57 foot by 40 foot solar photovoltaic array will be installed in the rear yard of the Burlington Fireplace and Heating property, 857 Milwaukee Avenue. Hendrickson addressed several questions from the commission, including about possible glare off the structure.

“This is a real deep black panel,” said Hendrickson. “A glare off this, you’re not going to have it.”

Mayor Bob Miller asked if Hendrickson would be willing to address glare if it became an issue, and Hendrickson said yes.

The panel is expected to be barely visible from Milwaukee Avenue. Hendrickson said the side of the panel would be visible from the sidewalk, and the top of the panel may be visible by the Fat Daddyz Tats next door.
