After starting the season winless in their first six games, the Burlington High School girls soccer team has shown significant improvement over the past four games.

The result led to a three-game winning streak that was ended with a 4-0 loss to Mukwonago in the championship match of the East Troy Spring Soccer Invitational Saturday.

“They are truly getting better every game,” head coach Joel Molitor said. “It’s hard to believe they are freshmen.”

The winning streak began with a 3-1 win over Union Grove Thursday. Sydney McCourt scored twice and Alli Zeman once as the Demon girls got their first win of the season in this Southern Lakes Conference matchup.

Burlington led 2-0 at the half, and each team scored once in the final 40 minutes.

A 1-0 win over Big Foot in the opening round of the East Troy invite made it two wins in a row. Morganne Brown got the sole goal of the game in the first half, and Burlington made it stand up. Tegan Rock had an assist on that goal.

In the second round, the Demons edged Fond du Lack 2-1 to extend the winning streak to three. Emily Mundt scored both Demon goals, the first on a penalty kick, and the second off an assist from Katie Travis.

In the championship game, Mukwonago led just 1-0 at the half, but tacked on three more goals in the second half. Tanya Schilling made 14 saves in this game.

“They played very well,” Molitor said of his team’s performance in the invite.

The Demon girls now stand at 3-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the SLC.

The girls will be at Wilmot for an SLC game on Thursday, May 3. They will participate in the Racine Case Invitational on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5.

On Tuesday, May 8, the Demons will be at Waterford for a 6:30 p.m. SLC matchup.

The next home game is Thursday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. against Elkhorn.
