The Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, otherwise known as the place where fans chant “Fear the Deer” in support of the Bucks, has served as an ideal venue for the Burlington High School girls basketball team.

After winning in its debut at the Fiserv Forum a year ago, the Demons returned on Friday, Jan. 6, when they played Elkhorn in a rare Southern Lakes Conference contest with the Elks serving as the host squad.

The Demons, who experienced a crushing defeat against conference juggernaut Union Grove a night earlier, bounced back with a thrilling overtime victory against the Elks on a 62-60 decision.

Demons coach Kyle Foulke, whose team played at the Fiserv Forum as part of the Milwaukee Bucks Prep Series, said the Demons needed a collective effort to put away Elkhorn.

“We are now 2-0 at the Fiserv Forum over the last two years,” Foulke said. “I’m going to have to talk to the Bucks and get all of our games here.”

Burlington improved to 11-4 overall and 4-3 in conference with the win over Elkhorn (10-4, 3-3).

The Demons, however, encountered early struggles after falling behind 10-0 before marching back on an 18-8 run to bring a 18-18 deadlock into halftime.

In the second half, according to Foulke, the Demons found their energy.

“Our energy came back in the second and we managed to pull out another win,” said Foulke, crediting senior Ella Clapp, who made key free throws at the end of regulation to force overtime.
