The Burlington High School boys basketball team couldn’t keep its early season momentum going in a non-conference meeting with Mount Horeb on Saturday at Waunakee High School.

The Demons, coming off of a hard fought victory a night earlier against Union Grove, fell to Mount Horeb on a 58-49 decision after the Vikings outscored Burlington 27-17 in the second half.

Burlington, which opened its with eight consecutive victories, fell to 8-1 overall after the non-league loss to Mount Horeb (8-3, 3-3 Badger-West).

While the Vikings garnered a game-high 26 points from Josh Manchester, who went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, the Demons had two double digit performers led by junior Connor Roffers’ 24.

Senior JR Lukenbill, meanwhile, added another 13 for the Demons.

The non-conference meeting was part of the #swingfam Showcase.

With the loss, Burlington dropped to sixth from fourth in the Division 2 WisSports.net Coaches Poll, which was released on Jan. 10.

Although the Demons dropped their first game of the season, they are still unbeaten in Southern Lakes Conference, thanks to a 48-34 defeat of visiting Union Grove a night earlier.
