Demon boys third, girls fifth at SLC meet

The Burlington boys finished third and the girls fifth May 20 in the Southern Lakes Conference Track and Field Meet at Westosha Central High School in Salem.

The boys scored 82 points. Lake Geneva won the meet with 193. Westosha Central won the girls’ meet (156), and the Demons’ girls scored 85 points.

In the boys meet, Westosha Central finished second (159), Wilmot fourth (73.5), Waterford fifth (65.6), Union Grove sixth (63), Elkhorn seventh (51) and Delavan-Darien eighth (13).

Badger finished second in the girls’ meet (127). Waterford finished third (96.5), Elkhorn fourth (95.5) and Union Grove sixth (80). Wilmot finished seventh (46) and Delavan-Darien eighth (10).

For the boys, Greg Vogt won the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet. Cody Mather finished second (11-6).

Charlie Aguirre finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (42.54 seconds). Austin Epping finished fourth in the triple jump (39-4.5).

Nathaniel Sibley finished fifth in the 1,600 (4:47.27) and sixth in the 3,200 (10:47.77). Cody Mather finished fifth in the 110 hurdles (17.00).

Meta Ehlen led the girls, finishing first in the 1,600 (5:29.08) and third in the 800 (2:30.28). Brittany Ehlen finished third in the 1,600 (5:35.52) and pole vault (9-0).

Megan Wallace finished fourth in the 400 (1:01.50). Ehlen finished fifth in the high jump (4-10).

The Demons entered the only competitor in a wheelchair. Leah Joslyn competed in both the 100-meter dash and shot put. She finished the 100 in 40.89 seconds and heaved the shot a distance of 9 feet, 8 inches.

Burlington next competes May 27 in the WIAA Division 1 Lake Geneva Badger regional at Badger. Badger, Elkhorn, Kenosha Bradford, Kenosha Indian Trail, Kenosha Tremper, Waterford, Westosha Central, Waterford and Wilmot are also in the Wolverines’ regional bracket.

The top four finishers in each event at the regional meet qualify for the Janesville Parker sectional meet May 30 at Parker. The top three in each event at the sectional meet advance to the WIAA Division 1 State Track and Field Meet June 6-7 at Veterans Stadium on the UW-LaCrosse campus.
