The Burlington High School boys golf team did not experience many off days during the regular season.

It just happened that an off day occurred Tuesday at the Southern Lakes Conference meet at Rivermoor in Waterford.

“We didn’t play well as a coordinated team,” Demons coach Bill Berkholtz said. “It was just one of those days, team-wise.”

The Demons finished third behind Lake Geneva and Waterford, which won its fourth SLC title in a row.

Burlington posted a team score of 343. The Demons’ Brian Dankle won individual medalist honors with a score of 78.

“I was pleased that Brian Dankle persevered enough to be the tournament medalist and that Justin Meseberg, a freshman, was able to hold it together enough to finish 10th in the tournament,” Berkholtz said.

Meseberg carded an 83. Ben Geiger shot an 87 and finished 14th. Alex Kruk finished at 95 and Josh Ketterhagen at 96 for Burlington.

Waterford finished with a team score of 323. Lake Geneva finished at 340. Union Grove finished fourth (357), Wilmot fifth (366) and Westosha Central sixth (369). Eklhorn finished seventh (374) and Delavan-Darien eighth (385).

The Demons finished second in the final SLC standings, which take into account the conference meet and the four SLC Majors. Waterford finished first. Burlington also finished second last season.

Lake Geneva finished third, Wilmot fourth, Union Grove fifth, Westosha Central sixth, Delavan-Darien seventh and Elkhorn eighth.

Dankle, Meseberg, Lake Geneva’s Jonathan Duggan and Waterford’s Garrett Buri and Zach Nash earned First Team All-SLC honors. Nash is the SLC Player of the Year.

Geiger, Waterford’s Grant Beck and Matt Puetz, Westosha’s Jonah Arbet and Wilmot’s Trey Turner earned Second Team All-SLC honors.

Kruk earned Honorable Mention All-SLC honors.

Burlington next plays on May 27 at a WIAA Division 1 regional tournament at Beloit’s Krueger Haskell Golf Course.

Beloit Memorial, Delavan-Darien, Elkhorn, Janesville Craig, Janesville Parker, Lake Geneva, Milton and Union Grove are also in the Demons’ regional bracket.

“We are looking forward to playing better at Beloit Kruger-Haskell for the WIAA Regional tournament,” Berkholtz said.

The top four teams and top four individuals not members of one of the top four qualifying teams advance to the WIAA Division 1 Watertown Sectional June 4 at Watertown Country Club.

The top two teams and top three individuals not members of the top two qualifying teams at each sectional tournament qualify for the WIAA Division 1 State Boys Golf Tournament June 9-10 at University Ridge in Madison.
