With two seconds and three thirds, the Waterford High School wrestling team finished sixth at the Badger Invitational held at Lake Geneva Saturday.

The 10-team event was won by Badger with 203.5 points. Waterford tallied 105 points.

Kody Azarian, competing at 120 pounds in this event, and Cody Nannemann, at 152, both placed second.

Azarian, ranked No. 3 in the state at 126 pounds, lost only to Austin Quartullo of Muskego, the No. 1-ranked wrestler at 120. Quartullo squeaked out a 6-4 decision over Azarian.

In Azarian’s other three matches, he had a pin and two technical falls.

Nannemann, ranked No. 9 in the state at 152, lost only to Muskego’s Connor Price, the No. 7-ranked wrestler at 152. Price scored an 8-5 decision over Nannemann.

In Nannemann’s other three matches, he won one by pin and two by major decisions.

Justin Ratkovec (106), Max Fisher (138) and Liam Pritchard (170) all took third, going 2-2 on the day.

Delavan-Darien dual

On Jan. 10, the Wolverine grapplers traveled to Delavan-Darien to take on the Comets in a Southern Lakes Conference dual. The two teams battled to a 38-38 tie, with the Comets getting the win based on criteria.

Azarian did not wrestle on this day, and that may have made the difference as his 126-pound weight class was won by a Delavan-Darien wrestler by virtue of a pin.

Waterford went into that final match of the dual leading 38-32.

Ratkovec (106), Liam Pritchard (182) and Nick Mastrocola (195) all won by pin.

Fisher had a technical fall at 145. and Cole Castine won a 7-2 decision at 160.

Waterford earned forfeit wins at 120 and 152.

The loss dropped the Wolverines to 8-9 overall in dual meets and 2-3 in the SLC.

Waterford hosted Badger on Thursday in an SLC dual that was originally scheduled for Dec. 20.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, the boys will participate in the Fort Atkinson Invitational.

Next week, the Wolverines will host Burlington in an SLC dual on Thursday, Jan
