In their first trip to the Wisconsin Boys State Golf Championship in many years, the Waterford High School boys golf team finished 12th out of 16 teams.

Played Monday and Tuesday at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, the Wolverines carded a team score of 653, which was 77 strokes over par. Waterford fired a 329 on Monday and a 324 on Tuesday.

Waterford was one of only four teams that improved by five or more strokes on the second day. The Wolverines’ score tied for the sixth best of the day, and Waterford went as high as eighth in the standings throughout the day.

On each day, the top four scores of the five players on each team count toward the team score.

Zach Nash, who was the medalist at sectional May 28, finished tied for 27th overall with a 12-over-par 156 (79-77).

Nash started slowly, double-bogeying his first two holes Monday, but then settled down. Starting on No. 10, Nash finished the back nine in five over. He played the front nine in just two over, and finished day one at seven over par.

On Tuesday, Nash finished strong after playing the back nine in eight over par. He birdied three consecutive holes on the front nine, and played the front nine in three under par. That gave him a five over par for Tuesday and a 12 over par for the championship.

David Zahn carded a 161 (81-80), Garrett Buri a 1623 (81-82), Grant Beck a 174 (88-86) and Adam Dewane a 176 (91-85).

Cedarburg High School won the Division 1 title with a 22-over-par 598.

Catholic Memorial won the Division 2 title with a 616, while Osseo-Fairchild won the Division 3 crown with a 639.
