Updates from the state track and field meet

Here are updates on the performances of  local athletes at the WIAA state track and field championships in La Crosse on Friday provided by Sports Editor Jennifer Eisenbart. Check back later for additional updates.

Division 3

• Catholic Central’s Megan Wadsworth ran into a heavy headwind in the Division 3 100-meter prelims, but still tied for the fourth-fastest time of 13.41. The top qualifier is No. 1 seeded Jen Wellnitz of Black Hawk, who ran a 13.07, followed closely by Kira Dittman of Edgar in 13.08.

• The CCHS girls 4×200 relay of Monica Litman, Sophie Foote, Jacquie Fiorillo and Megan Wadsworth qualified third for finals with a time of 1:47.92.

• CCHS senior Carson Meinholz squeaked into finals in the Division 3 boys 400-meter dash, taking third in his heat and qualifying ninth overall in 51.82.

• Both the Catholic Central High School boys and girls 4×100 relays qualified for finals. The girls team of Sophie Foote, Monica Litman, Shelby Frederick and Megan Wadsworth – in spite of a botched handoff – ran a time of 51.76 and qualified third. The boys team of Zach Frederick, Gavin Foote, Ethan Sobbe and Tyler Burzawa took ninth in prelims in 45.59.

• Meinholz did not make the finals in his second race, though, finishing 12th in the 200-meter dash prelims in 23.62.

• Finally, both CCHS 4×400 relays qualified for finals. The girls team placed ninth in prelims, with a squad of Jacquie Fiorillo, Ashley Reesman, Shelby Frederick and Kathleen Straube, while the boys team of Carson Meinholz, Hertel Novasic, Gavin Foote and Tyler Burzawa were second in their heat and overall in prelims (time not available).
