Male Athlete of the Week

Mickael Pauly, Burlington High School track and field: The Burlington High School exchange student finished off his year at BHS in style at the WIAA Division 1 state track and field meet.

Pauly ran a personal-best 49.63 to make the finals in the 400-meter run, and then finished seventh in finals in a time of 49.69. Those two races were his first times under 50 seconds in the race.

In Saturday’s timed finals of the 800-meter run, Pauly ran a school-record time of 1:56.51, and finished ninth in the field of 24 runners. He came in seeded 21st.

Also considered: Carson Meinholz, Catholic Central High School track and field.

 

Female Athlete of the Week

Megan Wadsworth, Catholic Central High School track and field: Wadsworth, in her third try at reaching the medal stand at the WIAA state meet, did it three times Saturday.

Wadsworth finished fourth in the finals of the 100-meter dash, running a time of 13.08. Then she helped the 4×100 relay team to a third-place finish, running with Jacquie Fiorillo, Shelby Frederick and Monica Litman.

She then added a third medal as a member of the girls fourth-place 4×200 relay. The team of her, Jacquie Fiorillo, Foote and Frederick finished fourth in 1:47.74.

 

Team of the Week

Waterford Union High School boys golf: It had been a long time since the Waterford Union High School boys golf team had been to state.

The 2013 Wolverines ensured May 28 that the school would wait no longer.

While no one at Waterford could confirm when the boys had qualified before, the team of Zach Nash, Grant Beck, David Zahn, Garrett Buri and Adam Dewane made it back by winning a playoff to finish second at the Brookfield Central sectional.

Central won the meet by shooting a 300, but the Wolverines tied for second with Waukesha West. On a sudden-death playoff hole, Waterford beat West in total strokes, 18 to 20.

 

Trapshooting

The 13 teams in the Southeast Wisconsin SCTP Trapshooting Conference wrapped up the season May 31 and June 1 in a hotly-contested championship shoot.

When all was said and done, the Burlington High School varsity squad won with a total of 482 of 500 targets, edging out Milwaukee Marquette (476) and Jefferson (473).

The BHS team was comprised of Myles Walker, Christian Jensen, Alexa McCarthy, Gunnar Knight and Jacob DeRosier.

Waterford Union High School claimed the junior varsity title with a team of Madelyn Bernau, D.J. Grundy, Mathew Davis, Thomas Kacley and Tristen Blank, hitting a total of 459 targets.

The Demon Intermediate team of Hunter Conrad, Cody McCarthy, Cullen Kruser, Weston Uhlenhake and Jared Hahn won with a score of 462.

The BHS squad was coming off its sixth consecutive state championship at the Wisconsin State High School Trap shoot, May 11 and 15-19. The varsity squad of Alexa McCarthy, Myles Walker, Terry Carr, Jordan Hintz and Christian Jensen won with a 476, with Jensen earning individual top honors by shooting his first-ever perfect score of 100.

Ali Knight won the girls title as well, hitting 97 of 100 targets.
