Male Athlete of the Week
Chris Benavides, Waterford Union High School boys basketball: Benavides, along with fellow senior Tanner Hunsucker, picked up the Waterford boys and almost propelled them to victory Saturday.
Benavides, in a game of standout performances, outscored everyone, posting a game-best 27 points in Burlington’s 62-60 win over the Wolverines.
Benavides also hit five 3-pointers in the contest before fouling out of the game late in the fourth quarter.

Female Co-Athletes of the Week
Bailey Fitzpatrick, Burlington combined gymnastics team: While the Burlington Combined gymnastics team was coming up just short of a team title Saturday at the Spartan Invite in Madison, Fitzpatrick was having a terrifically consistent day.
Fitzpatrick won the uneven bars with a score of 9.60, finished second on beam with a 9.575 and second on vault with a 9.675, and tied for second on floor with a 9.525.
That gave Fitzpatrick a score of 38.375 in the all-around – a new meet record. The score on vault was also a season high.
Madison Blair, Waterford Union High School girls basketball: Blair had what coach Dena Brechtl called the best game of her high school varsity career Saturday, as the Waterford girls defeated Burlington.
Blair finished with a game-high 19 points, but she added 11 rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists.
Team of the Week
Waterford Union High School girls basketball: The Wolverines were the first Southern Lakes Conference team to beat Wilmot this season, handing the Panthers a 41-37 defeat Jan. 24.
The Wolverines not only held the Panthers to more than 20 points below their season average, but also corralled Wilmot’s best player, Sarah Vozel. Vozel scored 11 points, but all but three came in the second quarter on a one-person 8-0 run for the Panthers.

Games of the Week
With Burlington edging out Elkhorn during the dual meet season, one would predict the Elks and the Demons will battle it out for the Southern Lakes Conference wrestling title Saturday at BHS.
Wrestling will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with weigh-ins at 8 a.m.
While Elkhorn and BHS are expected to be on top of the team standings, the other six teams – Wilmot, Westosha Central, Waterford, Union Grove, Badger and Delavan-Darien – all figure to have individuals looking for titles as well.
