Kazikowski, Beck make SLC first team

Andrew Kazikowski and Tony Beck, both juniors at Union Grove High School, have been named to Southern Lakes Conference first teams for the 2012-2013 winter season.

In addition, senior Aslyn Wolcott, of the Westosha Central/Union Grove gymnastics team made first-team all-conference in floor exercise.

In all, eight Broncos made either first team, second team or honorable mention.

Kazikowski made the SLC boys basketball first team. The 5-foot 10-inch guard led the Broncos in scoring this season with 12.4 points per game. Union Grove finished the season 7-7 in the SLC, and 10-14 overall. The boys lost in the second round of the WIAA playoffs.

Beck made the SLC wrestling first team at 285 pounds. Beck won the SLC conference crown at 285, but lost in the sectional semifinal. He finished the season with 40 wins and only five losses.

Beck helped the Bronco boys win their first SLC dual meets in several years.

Senior Sarah Petrovic made the SLC all-conference second team in girls basketball. Petrovic collected 252 rebounds this season to break the previous single season record at UGHS.

She also averaged 4.8 points per game in helping the Bronco girls to a 7-7 SLC record and a 9-14 overall mark. The team lost in the opening round of the WIAA playoffs.

Senior Patience Spinler was named to the gymnastics second team in vault.

Union Grove had three athletes get honorable mention selection.

Sophomore Grant Beck received that honor in boys basketball, sophomore Jordan Weidner in girls basketball, and sophomore Cole Ryan in wrestling.

Weidner was the second-leading scorer for the Bronco girls at six points per game.

Beck averaged 7.8 points per gamefor the Bronco boys.

Ryan qualified for state at 220 pounds, losing in the opening round, but gaining a lot of experience.

The UGHS varsity dance team finished second in the SLC, tallying 224 points.
