The Burlington High School girls soccer remained undefeated in Southern Lakes Conference play Tuesday with a 3-0 shutout at home against Westosha Central.

Burlington outshot the Falcons 23-8 in a strong performance.

Merin Mundt, who has led Burlington all season offensively, had a hat trick in this game.

She got the Demons on the board just over nine minutes into the game off an assist from Sydney McCourt.

Six and a half minutes later, with an assist from Maddy Harry, Mundt made it 2-0 Burlington.

Mundt completed the hat trick in the 49th minute on an unassisted goal.

“We played very well in all phases of the game,” head coach Joel Molitor said. “I thought we rode our luck a bit at times, but sometimes good teams have to be lucky. It’s good to be able to play girls at different positions and have them respond well. My girls are good players, and they understand the game, too.”

The win improved the Demon girls overall record to 11-3-1, and their SLC mark to 6-0.

Vs. Elkhorn

Behind two goals from Mundt, the Demon girls earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Elkhorn Thursday.

“We overcame some sloppy play and terrible playing conditions to win a game we needed to win,” Molitor said. “This is a big step forward for us.”

Elkhorn came into this game with just one Southern Lakes Conference loss and could have tied Burlington for first with a win.

Mundt scored her first goal just five minutes into the game, off an assist from Emily Mundt. She got the winning goal in the 77th minute off an assist from McCourt.

Goalkeeper Tanya Schilling came up big in this game.

“Tanya played the best game I have ever seen her play in goal,” Molitor said. “She saved us on several occasions.”

Molitor added that the girls have come together well as a team, which has been a pleasure for him to watch.

The Demons will play at Delavan-Darien today at 6:30 p.m.

The SLC Tournament will begin Tuesday, May 21, and conclude on Thursday, May 23.
