It’s been the story of the season for the Catholic Central High School boys basketball – play well for a half or three quarters, but one stretch keeps the team from the win.
Such was the case Saturday when the Hilltoppers traveled to Milwaukee and fell to Young Coggs Prep, 71-58.
“We talk about consistency every day in practice,” said CCHS coach Eric Henderson. “We just continue to go flat for a stretch and wind up paying for it in the end.
“It isn’t for lack of effort. We’re playing real hard but maybe it’s our inexperience at the varsity level.”
For the first half, the two teams battled evenly and were tied 25-all at the break. Then came the third quarter, where Young Coggs scored 26 points to CCHS’s nine to take command of the contest.
Catholic Central bounced back in the fourth to outscore Young Coggs 24-19 but it was too little, too late.
Tegan Miles had his best production of the season, scoring 25 points on a 9-for-12 night from the field. He was also eight of nine from the free-throw line. Bailey Wright added 12 points for CCHS while Spencer Wilker added 11.
Catholic Central travels to Kenosha tonight to take on Kenosha St. Joseph before closing out the regular season at home Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Martin Luther.
CCHS received the No. 6 seed in their regional and will host Salam High School from Milwaukee on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
