CCHS stumbles in opener against Waterford, 12-1

The Catholic Central High School softball team struggled with its defense Monday afternoon, falling on the road to Waterford in its season opener 12-1.

The Lady ’Toppers committed four errors, three of which came in the opening inning when Waterford scored four runs in the top of the frame.

CCHS was the home team in the contest, but trailed 8-0 before getting on the board with a run in the fourth inning.

Kelsey Robers was 2-for-3 for the Lady ’Toppers. Makenzie Kyle took the loss for Catholic Central, striking out two and walking two in the contest.

Maddie Szalewski led Waterford on the mound with 14 strikeouts and no walks.

Jenna Bouffiou – in her first varsity game – led Waterford with three hits and two RBI, while Abbey Zortman also had three hits. Megan Jensen had a triple, two hits and two RBI for the Wolverines.
