The Catholic Central softball team put together what head coach Bill Greskiw called his squad’s best overall game of the season Tuesday, downing Whitefish Bay Dominican on the road, 9-2.

The Lady ’Toppers picked up 11 hits, with three from Maggie Smith and two from Tori Kempken.

“Kempken has been our most consistent hitter all year,” Greskiw said. “And Maggie had a great game both offensively and defensively.”

Makenzie Kyle had nine strikeouts in the win, and allowed just three hits.

The day before, CCHS downed Deerfield at home.

CCHS is now 6-10 overall.

The Jekyll and Hyde Season for the Hilltoppers continued with a pair of Metro Classic Conference blowout losses sandwiched around a strong non-conference win.

On May 9, the Hilltoppers lost 15-2 to Racine Lutheran/Prairie, but bounced back with a 7-4 win over Living Word Lutheran.

On Tuesday, the ’Toppers lost at home to Kenosha St. Joseph 18-4.

“In each of these games, the losses and the win, we’ve done a number of good things, but seem to lose focus, fail to execute or make a play and the roof caves in,” said head coach Tom O’Connell. “We started the season very young and have gotten even younger with injuries of late, but by now, we should be playing at a higher level.”

In the win over Living Word Lutheran, Catholic Central put the game away with a three-run fifth innings. With the bases loaded, Alec Wegge delivered a swinging bunt that scored Jake Surges. An infield out brought in another run, and a sac fly by Jake Kaider brought in the final run.
