BHS soccer girls undefeated in SLC

In hopes of avenging a loss just three days earlier, the Burlington High School girls soccer team hosted Waterford Tuesday in Southern Lakes Conference action.

The Demon girls were successful in avenging the loss, defeating the Wolverines 3-0.

Merin Mundt continued her strong play offensively, scoring two goals. She put Burlington on the board in the 33rd minute with an assist from Lindsey Kraemer and made it 3-0 in the 56th minute off an assist from Tegan Rock.

In between those two goals, Emily Mundt scored (assisted by Merin Mundt) in the 55th minute.

Tanya Schilling got the shutout in goal.

 

Racine County Invite

Over a challenging two days Friday and Saturday, the Demon girls played three games, winning one, losing one and tying one.

“We were decimated by injuries over the course of two days, and we were fortunate to be able to play our third game after eight of our starters went down to injury,” head coach Joel Molitor said.

In its opening action Friday, Burlington and Racine Horlick battled to a 0-0 tie.

Goalkeeper Tanya Schilling had five saves in the 50-minute game to earn the shutout.

On Saturday, the Demons opened with a 1-0 loss to Waterford, but then followed that up with a 5-0 victory over Racine Park.

After going scoreless in the first two games, Sydney McCourt found the back of the net with an unassisted goal just eight minutes into the game. Six minutes later, off an assist from Jackie Vergara, McCourt made it 2-0 Demons.

Paige Puntillo, off an assist from McCourt, made it 3-0 Burlington in the 19th minute.

Maddy Harry got in on the action with an assisted goal at the 28-minute mark, and Puntillo scored her second goal of the game with an unassisted effort in the 34th minute.

 

Vs. Wilmot

On Thursday, Burlington hosted Wilmot in Southern Lakes Conference action and came away with a 5-0 win.

The game was actually called at the 55:13 mark due to weather.

Freshman Merin Mundt had a hat trick in this game, getting her first goal unassisted just 58 seconds into the game. She had another goal in the fifth minute (assisted by Maddy Harry) and her third goal in the 30th minute (assisted by Harry again).

Emily Mundt also had a goal five minutes into the game (assist to Ashley Derks), and Harry scored the final Demon goal 45 minutes into the game.
