BHS girls third, boys fourth at SLC Meet

Riding four event victories and showing some nice depth, the Burlington High School track and field squads did well at the Southern Lakes Conference Meet Tuesday at Waterford.

The Demon girls edged Waterford for third with 110.83 points, while the boys took fourth with 101 points. Lake Geneva Badger won both sides of the competition.

The two Burlington squads split the four victories, with each team capturing two titles.

For the Demon girls, Audra Weis took the top spot in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet even.

Kaysie Shebeneck got the other Demon victory for the girls by winning the shot put with a heave of 34-11.

The Demon boys got wins from Mickael Pauly and Max Shenkenberg. Pauly won the 800-meter run in two minutes 3.29 seconds, while Shenkenberg took the top spot in the triple jump, with a leap of 43-08.5.

Pauly also was second in the 400 with a time of 50.74 seconds.

Finishing second for the Demon girls were the 4-by-800 relay, Meta Ehlen in the 1,600 (5:35.59) and the 800 (2:31.86) and Emma Fettig in the long jump (17-01.5).

Third-place finishes for the girls were turned in by 4-by-200 relay, the 4-by-400, Brittany Ehlen in the pole vault (8-00) and Lisa Bedessem in the triple jump (32-11).

The girls team scored 15.5 points in the pole vault, 13 points in the long jump (Hannah Wills was fourth), and 13 points in the triple jump (Molly Benavides was fourth and Hannah Anderson seventh).

For the Demon boys, the 4-by-400 relay team and Ross Canales in the high jump (5-10), also took second place.

The boys squad tallied 19 points in the triple jump (Ross Canales was fourth and Pauly fifth), 14 points in the 400-meter dash (Zach Wawrzyniakowski was fourth) and the 800 (Wawrzyniakowski was fifth), and 13 points in the high jump (Skylar VanDusseldorp was fourth and Marcus Boone eighth).

Both squads will compete in the Lake Geneva Badger WIAA Division 1 regional on Monday, May 20.
