Area softball players earn conference honors

With Westosha Central dominating the Southern Lakes Conference softball scene – and as it turned out, the state – it was no surprise that the Falcons dominated the All-SLC selections.

The Falcons had the Player of the Year in pitcher Sarah Fonk, and four other picks on the first team.

Fonk went on to earn Wisconsin Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Year honors as well earlier this week.

Union Grove senior Annie McClelland – the 2013 All-Area Player of the Year – was also named to the All-State first team, and was the only Bronco to make the SLC first team.

Also on the first team were a trio of Waterford seniors – catcher Sara Terrian, outfielder Alyssa Helwig and shortstop Megan Jensen.

All three made the All-Area first team.

Other area players making the All-SLC second team was Waterford pitcher Maddie Szalewski, and her teammates Alicia Barbian and Abbey Zortman, plus Union Grove’s Cassidy Kortendick, Brooke Repta and Sarah Petrovic.

Burlington’s Chyanne Onstad was also named to the second team.

The Metro Classic Conference All-Conference team was also announced recently.

Racine Lutheran senior shortstop Liz Scott and Kenosha St. Joseph pitcher Maddie Chase – a junior – were the Co-Players of the Year in the conference.

Catholic Central saw senior Kelsey Robers – who moved to the outfield to help stabilize the team – named to the first team, and senior infielder Maggie Smith to the second team.
