Demon girls drop three

With three players in double figures, the Waterford Wolverines handed the Demon girls a 56-34 loss Saturday on Burlington’s home court.
Waterford was led by Alyssa Helwig with 14 points, with Madison Blair and Kelly Strasser each adding 13.
The only Demon in double figures was Emily Golon with 11. Over half of Golon’s points came from the free-throw line where she converted six of eight attempts.
Nine of Golon’s points came in the first half when the Demons stayed relatively close to Waterford.
Waterford led 13-10 after one quarter and 31-23 at the half. A 15-9 Wolverine edge in the third quarter expanded their lead to 46-32, and the Demon girls managed just two more points the rest of the way.
The Demons got to the free-throw line 27 times in this game, converting 17, but had only seven field goals the entire game (three from three-point range).
Waterford had 19 field goals and was 17 of 24 from the foul line.
Burlington had 48 points against the Elks at home Dec. 6, but Elkhorn collected 58 to take a 58-48 victory over the Demons.
The Demon girls had the early lead in this game, leading 14-8 after one period, but Elkhorn outscored Burlington 19-7 in the second quarter, and 17-7 in the third to take a 44-28 lead into the final quarter.
Burlington scored 20 points in the final period, and held the Elks to 14, but it was not enough to overcome the big deficit.
Free throws made the difference in this game as Elkhorn made 18 of 36 attempts, to Burlington’s two of 10.
No Demon had more than seven points, with Golon and Allie Aldrich tying for the team lead with seven each. A total of 10 Demons scored in this game, with Elkhorn having 11 players tally points.
Burlington did much better from the field in this game, knocking down 10 threes, and eight more from inside the arc. Eight different Demons knocked down threes.
Burlington traveled to Waukesha South Tuesday for a non-conference game and came away with their fourth straight loss.
South handed the Demons a 63-42 defeat.
South led 17-8 after one quarter and increased that to 34-17 at the half, and 48-25 after three quarters.
No further details of the game were available at press time.
The loss drops Burlington to 1-5 overall.
