VIOLET JEAN ANDERSON

      Violet Jean Anderson, 94, of Racine, passed away on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024 while under hospice care at Primrose Retirement Community of Mount Pleasant. She was born April 27, 1929 in Racine to the late Henry and Grace (nee Osenga) Anderson.

“Jean”, as known by her family and friends, graduated from Union Grove High School, class of 1946. After graduation Jean was employed at Bell Telephone for several years before attending and receiving her Bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University in 1956. Following that graduation, Jean taught school at Pensacola Christian School in Pensacola, Florida while also earning a Master’s degree from Michigan State University in 1961. Following graduation Jean traveled to Japan to teach at the elementary school at Misawa Air Force base, Misawa, Japan in 1962. After returning from Japan, Jean taught for 28 years, retiring from Knapp Elementary School in Racine in 1990, teaching second grade most of her career. She was also an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, serving as president in 1978.

Always active, Jean was for many years an avid bowler and community volunteer for Toys for Tots, but her real life-long passion was seeing the world, visiting numerous countries on every continent in the world except Antarctica.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Doris Korlewitz, brother-in-law Michael Korlewitz, sister-in-law Eleanor Anderson and sister-in-law Katherine Anderson. She is survived by her brothers Henry Anderson of Racine and Marvin Anderson of Union Grove, and her nine nieces and nephews and their families.

Jean was a lifelong member of the Raymond Christian Fellowship Church, 8638 W. Hwy K, where a celebration of life service will be held with Bob Guth officiating. Funeral visitation will be held Sunday, March 17, from 1 until 2:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service. Private burial will be at Union Grove Memorial Cemetery on Monday, March 18 at 10 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Miller-Reesman Funeral home, Union Grove.
