She worked as a home nurse to a gentleman who suffered from polio and was in an iron lung. She also worked for many years at Mt. Carmel Care Center in the memory care unit and she was the neighborhood Lake Street nurse.

Shirley married Richard Strockis in December of 1956. The couple moved to Browns Lake in Burlington in 1969 where they raised their six children, Steven Strockis, Susanne (Kevin) Spieker, Rick (Desiree) Strockis, Victor (Victoria) Strockis, Laura (Barry) Proctor, and Cheryl Strockis. Shirley was lovingly referred to as Neena to 14 grandchildren, Ean Elderbrook, Ericka (Sid) Temple, Joshua Biedrzycki, Sierra (Johnny) Leiken, Kali (Aaron) Bloom, Melanie (Neal) Jacobs, Keegan (Gabrielle) Strockis, Dexter (Hazel) Spieker, Frank Hozeska, Hailie-Shaye Strockis, Quinn Spieker, Phoebe Hozeska, Maxwell Proctor, and Cooper Hozeska. She was also Great Neena to 12 great grandchildren, Braden, Nova, Leo, Bennett, Lydia, Everett, Elliot, Halle, Silas, Marlee, Charlie, and newborn little baby Nora Fae. She was adored by her nieces and nephews.

Shirley’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring administration, wonderful CNA’s, caregivers, and residents at Elder Care Cottages in Waterford, Neena’s BFF Norma for her welcoming nature and friendship, the staff at St. Croix Hospice, and hospice nurse Brittany for her care, attention and guidance. Neena was blessed to have you all love and care for her.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held this summer on Browns Lake and then in Hawaii the following March. Details to be announced at a later date.
