Margaret B. Hobbick of Burlington entered eternal life on March 2, 2024, at age 100. She was born on Aug. 27, 1923, in Milwaukee, to Mathias and Mary (nee Puetz) Pekel. When Margaret was three, the family moved to a farm in Troy, where she grew up and attended schools in East Troy.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Thomas P. Hobbick; sisters Marie Graf and Germaine Gervais; and brother Mathew Pekel. She is survived by her sisters Lucille Sisson, Jane Delaney, Marcy Ullenburg, Ann Ottow, and Beth Biersack; her children Thomas (Irene Voce) Hobbick, James (Dawn) Hobbick, Jack (Tonya) Hobbick, Ann (Tim Biewer) Kerkman, Peggy (Robert) Held, and Robert (Zahava) Hobbick; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris, Livi, Abbey, Alexis, Jamie, Kyle, Maggie, Emily, Markus, Mandy, and Samatha; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Margaret worked as a waitress at the Plush Horse in Burlington and at Liggett’s Resort on Browns Lake for many years in the 1950s and early 60s. She was active in scouting for all of her children, serving as a Den Mother with pack 334 for many years, and assisting with Girls Scout for both of her daughters. She volunteered helping with the hot lunch program at St. Mary’s for well over 40 years, retiring at age 90. She also helped serve funeral meals at St. Mary’s during that same period.

Having grown up on a farm, Margaret developed a green thumb and took immense pride in her flowerbeds around her home, which she maintained well into her mid-90’s.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 108 McHenry St., Burlington, on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will take place at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Dr., Burlington, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 4 until 7 p.m.
