JAMES BURDETTE MEALY

James Burdette Mealy transitioned peacefully at home, which was his wish, on Jan. 11, 2024, surrounded by family. Jim was born March 18, 1928 to Burdette and Leta Mealy. He was a proud graduate of the Rochester Ag School. On June 9, 1951 he married Donna Imme.

Jim was a wonderful man, son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He lived all of his 95 years on Mealy Road. He prided himself on the family farm he built with his father and sons, and the house he and his father built with only one carpenter. Jim was a father to nine children who all adored him, always kind and understanding, even through all of the challenges presented to him by them (and there were many). He had the patience of a saint.

Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and was always a joy to be around. Jim and Donna, while raising nine children, always had time to enjoy a wonderful group of friends going to polka dances, playing cards, and just having fun. He greatly enjoyed his weekly Sheepshead game with the guys, and his many lunches with friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his friends at Dover Inn.

Jim was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church in Kansasville. As an avid antique tractor enthusiast, he enjoyed working on his collection of 20 tractors, and his long tractor rides with friends on his Oliver 1650. He served on the Rochester School Board, the Dover Town Board, and was an active supporter and leader for 4H.

A life well lived by any standard.

Jim is survived by his children, Chuck (Tammy), Eileen (Art) Naber, Terry Bowers, Nancy (Dave) Mutter, Patty (Ron) Reich, Joe (Anne), Bill (Tammy), and Pete (Kerry); 26 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna, son Ted, and sisters Jean Noble and Mary Jo Clauer.

In lieu of flowers or donations, when you think of Jim, smile and remember an interaction with him that warmed your heart.

Please join us to celebrate his life on Sunday, Jan. 21, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Cotton Exchange, 345 Hickory Hollow Road, Waterford.

Mealy-Stencel Funeral Home is serving the family. Well-wishers may visit www.mealyfuneralhome.com.
