GLORIA LILLIAN LAZARUS

Gloria Lillian Lazarus, 97, of Waterford, passed away very peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. She was born as Claudia Paratiukewitch on April 12, 1926, to Tessie (nee Rymar) and Michael Paratiukewitch. Her parents emigrated from Ukraine and later shortened their name to “Pareth” and changed her name to Gloria.

Gloria loved school and graduated at the top of her class from South Fallsburg, New York Graded School, and went to New York City to attend Washington Irving High School, where she was salutatorian at graduation. She went on to attend Hunter College. During World War II, she worked in administration at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where she met Arthur Laing Lazarus, Jr. The couple married on Sept. 7, 1947, in Mahopac, New York.

While Arthur was stationed at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina, Gloria traveled to Milwaukee, to care for an ailing aunt. Arthur came to visit her on leave and decided to move to Wisconsin after his service was complete.

Gloria worked for AC Spark Plug (later Delco Electronics), Bucyrus Erie Co. and ln-Sink-Erator. She was a meticulous executive administrator and enjoyed the many challenges of her positions.

Away from work she enjoyed spending time with friends and family, which was often a friendly game of Scrabble with a glass of Asti Spumante. Gloria also loved to travel and throughout her life took many family trips with Arthur, her children and her grandchildren.

She was precededin death by her husband Arthur Lazarus, sister Ann Parish, sister Sonia Brookins, and only son, David Peter Lazarus.
