EVELYN L. EHLEN

      Evelyn L. “Evie” Ehlen, 73, of Lyons, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024.

Evelyn was born in Burlington on Jan. 20, 1950, to Fred and Agnes (nee Lohaus) Ehlen. Her early life was spent in Lyons, where she graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School in 1964. She attended St. Mary’s High School for two years then attended Badger High School for her final two years of high school and graduated in 1968.

Evelyn worked as a dishwasher and waitress at Johnnie Reynolds Supper Club for many years. Her career as a caregiver started during her high school years. She also worked as a candy striper at Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn. She was hired after graduation as a nurse’s aide and assumed many positions at Lakeland over the rest of her career. She worked in the emergency room, went back to school at Gateway and graduated as an RN, working in wound care and finally retiring in 2017. Evelyn worked very hard at being a perfectionist in everything she did. She was very kind and compassionate to all she cared for.

Evelyn was a member of Lyons Fire and Rescue starting in 1982. In her younger years, she loved to help out on the farm. She loved gardening and being outdoors enjoying nature. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lyons. She will be missed by family and the many friends she had.

Evelyn is survived by her siblings, Gertrude (Terry) Ehlen, Martin (Judy) Ehlen, Steven (Beth) Ehlen, Bernard (Linda) Ehlen, and Jerry Ehlen; and nephews and niece, Adam, Matt (Tish), Eric, Kayla (Dennis), Jordan (Jill), Brady (Dena) and Mark; and great-nieces and nephews, Logan, Trevor, Sophie, Emma, Aubrey, Oliver, Piper, Annabeth, Johnathan and Donna. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, niece Megan Ehlen, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank Aurora Health, Aurora at Home, Dr. Haider and the Southern Lakes Cancer Team, UW Health in Madison, St. Luke’s in Milwaukee, Lyons Fire and Rescue, Walworth County Sheriffs Dept. and all who did anything to help in her care over the last years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9 until 10:45 a.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Burial will follow mass at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
