EUGENE FRANCIS DEXTER

Eugene Francis Dexter, 87, of Brighton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Gene was born on Aug. 9, 1936, to Edith and William Dexter in Brighton. He grew up with his parents and siblings on a farm where Bong Recreation now sits. After high school, Gene served his country in the United States Army.

After he returned home from his service, he met his loving wife, Karen (nee Maison), who he made a beautiful life with. They were married on May 5, 1962, at St. Edwards Church in Racine, and were blessed to spend the next 62 years happily married. Gene and Karen went on to have two children, Tammy, and Jeff. Gene started his career in construction where he worked for roughly 20 years. He eventually retired from Central High School where he worked as a maintenance worker. In his spare time, he was a known nature enthusiast and avid outdoorsman. On any given day you could find him outside, whether it be gardening, planting trees, hunting, fishing, trapping – you name it, he loved it. Gene was recognized as a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Trapping Association.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and William Dexter; siblings, Leroy (Louise) Dexter, Kenny (Rita) Dexter, and Wally Dexter; in-laws, Wesley (Betty) Maison; sister-in-law Isabell (Robert) Fox, and daughter Tammy Henning.

He is survived by his wife Karen; son Jeff (Kelly); sister Karen (Jim) Ehlen; sister-in-law Celeste Dexter; son-in-law Steve Henning; grandchildren, Lukas (Demi), Patrick, Cheyenne, and Zoe, and great-grandchildren, Leo and Millie.

We want to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Aurora Burlington Hospital and Aurora Hospice for their exceptional care.

Services will be held at St. Francis Church in Brighton on May 11. Visitation will start at noon with about a 30 minute service at 1:30 p.m. followed by burial.
