MICHAEL F. EBBERS

Michael F. Ebbers, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died near Elkhart, Kansas, a few days before Thanksgiving. He was hunting with his best dog and died suddenly from natural causes.

Michael was the second of four children born to Frederick and Margaret Ebbers in Burlington. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1970.

He went to the University of Wisconsin, earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, and became a land surveyor after college. In 1981, he took a job with the ATSF and moved to Texas to engineer railroad bridges. Eventually, he moved to Chicago and started to court his co-worker Ann. They married on Nov. 28, 1986.

With a Master’s of Business from Illinois Benedictine College, he and Ann moved to Albuquerque in 1988 with their eight-year-old daughter, Mary, and newborn Sarah. They subsequently had two more children, Charlie and Hannah.

He worked for ATSF, Dames and Moore, URS, and Strategic Management Solutions Incorporated in New Mexico.

Michael was a man of God who loved his wife and family. He spent his free time reading the Bible, studying new topics, updating his house, spending time in his backyard, keeping score at baseball games, cooking, and generously trying to feed everyone who walked through his door. His sense of humor, ability to take responsibility, and his steady nature were a gift to those around him.

Michael is survived by his wife Ann; son Charlie (Julia); daughters Mary, Sarah, and Hannah; sister Nancy Gilliland; and brothers Tom Ebbers and Mark Ebbers. Many family members and friends will miss him.

Services were held on Dec. 2, 2023, at Daniels Funeral Home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
