LaVERNE H. KUHNKE SR.

      LaVerne H. Kuhnke Sr., 90, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at his home.

LaVerne was born in Sharon on June 22, 1931, to Arthur and Vera (nee Greene) Kuhnke. He was educated and spent his early life in Sharon and served in the Army during the Korean War. On June 24, 1951 in Zenda, he was united in marriage to Betty Hulbert. Following marriage, they made Bohners Lake their home. Betty preceded him in death on April 22, 2015.

LaVerne worked as a machinist for Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee. He was very strong in his Nazarene faith that was very important to him. He enjoyed woodworking, making such things as birdhouses, rocking horses, picture frames and children’s furniture.

LaVerne is survived by his children, Carol Atherton, Kathleen (Warren) Kasten, Mary (Randy) Monteith, Deborah Kuhnke, LaVerne Kuhnke Jr., Penny (Theodore) Blodgett and Anthony (Beth) Kuhnke; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; two great-great grandchildren; and siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Aurora Hospital, especially Mollie, Becky and Carol, along with neighbor Kevin, for helping out during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the veteran’s organization of your choice.

Funeral Service for LaVerne will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home at noon. Relatives and friends can visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov 6, 2021 from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon. Private burial with full Military Honors will take place at a later date at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
