DEAN E. LUKE

Dean “Butch” E. Luke, 75, of New Munster, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2021 at his home.

Dean was born in Burlington, on July 2, 1946, to Donald and June (nee Tabbert) Luke. His early life was spent in Wheatland, where he graduated from Holy Name Grade School and Burlington High School. On June 9, 1973 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Jayne (nee Warren) Schuerman. Following marriage, they made New Munster their home. He was a lifelong resident of the Wheatland area.

Dean was owner and carpenter for his own business, Luke Brothers Inc. for 44 years. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish and served as an usher, choir member, Fall Festival Committee Chairman and Parish Council Member. He was a member of the Wheatland Fire Department for 20 years and served as chief for many years. In his younger years, Dean enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He loved music, enjoyed crafting furniture for his family and was an avid Brewers and Packers fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

Dean is survived by his wife, Jayne; children, Jerome (Mary) Schuerman, Donald (Shelley) Schuerman, Nancy Iverson, Paul (Mona) Schuerman, Deanna Luke and Karen (Paul) Berenson; grandchildren, Leona (Tyler) Hermsen, Ryan (Tennille) Cates, Cory Schuerman, Dalton Schuerman, Casey Schuerman, Kaitlin (David) Shellberg, Michael Iverson, Brian (Holly) Iverson and Tucker Schuerman; great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Boone and Layla Hermsen, Elijah Iverson and Mabel, Sawyer and Nash Cates; brothers, Danny Luke and David (Linda) Luke; sisters, Sharon (Larry) Dittman and Donna Hirthe; uncle, Ernest (Delores) Tabbert; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Tim Iverson; uncles, Richard (Mary) Luke and Lene Tabbert; and aunt, Helen (Albert) Schlitz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9 until 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place immediately following Mass at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

The family has suggested memorials to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
