SUSAN A. APPLEBY

      Susan A. Appleby, 48, Burlington, died peacefully on May 29, 2017, at Zilber Family Hospice after a 4-1/2 year battle with cancer.

She was born in Kenosha on Feb. 17, 1969, to Donald and Janet (Faber) Behling. She spent her early life in Antioch where she graduated from Antioch High School. She then attended University of Wisconsin – Parkside where she earned an English degree.

On June 22, 2003, in Lake Geneva, she married Randall Appleby. They made their home in Lake Geneva before moving to Burlington in 2016. Sue was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She had worked for Twin Oaks Country Inn off and on for many years, where she made many lifelong friends. She loved entertaining and planning gatherings. She enjoyed baking, photography, camping, boating and taking trips. She was a substitute teacher and loved going to her children’s sporting events.

Survivors include her husband; children, Corah (Kent) Schopp, Samuel Abbott, Calvin Abbott, Donovan Appleby and Charlie Appleby; her mother; siblings, Bart (Carla) Behling, Brad (Erika) Behling and Sarah Behling; father and mother-in-law, Terry (Linda) Appleby; sister-in-law, Melissa (Tom) Darovic; and father of three of her children, Henry Abbott; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and very special friends, Tammy and Derek Straight and their family who provided care and support during this entire journey.

She was preceded in death by her father.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School or Zilber Family Hospice.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Zilber Family Hospice, Froedtert Center for Advanced Care, the pastors at St. John’s Church and Central High School staff and students, for their wonderful care, compassion, prayers and support.

Services for Sue will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 1, at 7 p.m. Visitation for family and friends will be at the church on June 1, from 4-7 p.m. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
