Mary Bernadine “Mary Dean” (Underwood) Sikes, 95, Burlington, formerly Kermit, Texas, died peacefully May 24, 2017, at Pine Brook Pointe Assisted Living with her loving family by her side.
Mary Dean was born in Gran Quivira, N.M., to the late Samuel and Lizzie Underwood on Jan. 20, 1922. As a child, her family moved to Kermit where she finished school.
In 1947 she married Charles E. Sikes and resided in Kermit. In 1999 they moved to Burlington to be near their daughter.
Survivors include her son, Wayne (Verna) Sikes; daughter, Susie (Bart) Stark; six grandchildren who were the delight of her life, Emily, Joshua, and JR Sikes, Ben, Chris, and Bailee Stark; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.
She was further preceded in death by her husband in 2000, a sister in 1995, and a brother in 2001.
A memorial gathering is Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at Mealy Funeral Home, 225 W. Main S., Waterford. In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy, Mary Dean’s family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.
