LAVERNE J. SCHOENBERG

LaVerne J. “Bud” Schoenberg, 91, formerly Lyons, died May 21, 2017, at Holton Manor in Elkhorn. He was born April 1, 1926, in Spring Prairie, to the late Henry and Lauretta (Roanhouse) Schoenberg. He spent his early life in Spring Prairie and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Lyons.

On May 1, 1948, he married Florence Ehlen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and the two farmed in Spring Prairie for more than 40 years until retiring and moving to the new home they built in Lyons. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1995.

After retiring from dairy farming, Bud worked part time for Walworth County’s senior center programs. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s, and over the years he helped with many church events. Socializing, sharing stories and playing cards with friends and family were a few of his favorite things. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and their families and with his dear longtime friend, Mary Ellen Desing, who passed away just three weeks before Bud.

Survivors include his brother, Harold (Mary) Schoenberg, Burlington; nephews and nieces, Dan (Connie) Schoenberg, Louann (Ed) Litwitz, Ed (Jill) Schoenberg, Al (Paula) Schoenberg, Jeanine (Don) Cowan, Lynne (Mike) McCluskey, Joe (Shannon) Schoenberg, Karen Schatzman, Kathy (Pete) Fischer, Pam Cattani, Patty (Brian) Simon and Thomas (Arlene) Held; sister-in-law, Geraldine Ehlen, Burlington; and many other relatives and close friends.

He was further preceded in death by his sister, Virginia “Toots” Held and her husband LeRoy Held; his nephew, Kenneth Held, and other relatives.

Bud’s family would like to thank Dr. Paul Webber and the staff at Holton Manor for their care and compassion.

Services are at noon Friday, June 2, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends is June 1, from 5-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington.
