WILLIAM W. MARTIN

Easter Lily      William W. Martin, 80, Burlington, died Sept. 26, 2016, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. He was born June 27, 1936, in Burlington, to the late Edward and Lucille (David) Martin. He was a lifetime resident of Burlington where he attended St. Charles Grade School, graduating from St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee.

He proudly served in the Army Military Police during the Korean War.

On Aug. 1, 1964, he married Darlene Marie Schroeder. They made their home in Burlington where they raised their family. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2012.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He was the founder of the Bill Martin Food for the Needy, where for over 40 years he collected and distributed food for needy families during the holidays.

He was an avid gardener and a huge Cubs fan. He worked as a meat cutter where he spent 35 years at Dick’s Market, Waterford, and after they closed he went to work at Sentry, Muskego, and Burlington for seven years.

Survivors include his children, Donna (Glenn Harjes) Martin, Dean Martin Sr., Diane Martin and Dale Martin; grandchildren, Heath Regner, Dean Martin Jr., Kala Frueh and Erin Frueh; great-grandchildren, Izabella, Maddie and Thomas Regner; his siblings, Richard (Shirley) Martin, David (Corrine) Martin, Jerome (Nancy) Martin, Thomas (Barbara) Martin, James (Carol) Martin, Mary Uhlenhake, Lettie (Gus) Umnus, Lois Spiegelhoff and Jean Kerkman; sister-in-law, Helen Martin; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his brothers, Donald (Dorie) Martin and John ‘Jack’ Martin; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Spiegelhoff, Jerome Kerkman, John ‘Jack’ Uhlenhake; nephews, Patrick Martin and Jeff Martin; and niece, Beth Spiegelhoff.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeland Hospital ICU and the nurses with Aurora at Home Hospice for all their wonderful care.

Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be celebrated Saturday Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Yamid Blanco presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends is Friday, Sept. 30, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, from 4-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m., prayer vigil.
