ROGER D. MAYER

Easter Lily      Roger D. Mayer, 81, Burlington died July 5, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 4, 1934, to the late Clarence and Selma (Matter) Mayer in Milwaukee County. His early life was spent in Waterford where he attended Waterford High School.

On Sept. 3, 1955, he married Jean North at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington. Following marriage they resided in San Francisco for two years where he served in the Army as a 6th Army Honor Guard. He was an excellent diesel mechanic; was employed by Cummins Diesel, and Jupiter Transport as well as a MAC Tool Distributor. He enjoyed his work and was a well-respected diesel mechanic.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Once retired Roger and Jean loved to travel in their RV and spent many winters in Texas. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, while carrying on his mother’s green thumb. He was a handyman who could fix absolutely anything and was a talented wood carver. His specialty was carving intricate horses. More than anything Roger loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a terrific father and a wonderful grandfather. His family meant the world to him.

Survivors include his loving wife; children, Cathy (Peter) Mayer, Aptos, Calif., Mike (Nanci) Mayer, Burlington, Steven (Pat) Mayer, Burlington, Laura (Lars) Mayer, Stockholm, Sweden, Susan (Ron) Kosharek, Rochester, Minn., and Karen (Craig) Anderson, Anthem, Ariz.; grandchildren, Brian and Jason Mayer, Nicole and Chelsea Anderson, Tracey Mayer, Kim Mayer-Geiger, Chloe Mayer, Jacob, Jennifer and Jeffrey Kosharek and Caroline Mayer; great-grandchildren, Colton Woods and Bryce Mayer; siblings, Douglas Mayer, Gloria Coe, Diane Janke, Darlene Adrian, Marge Staebler; many other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Ronald, David and Dan Mayer.

Funeral services were July 8, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington. The Rev. James Volkert officiated. A private burial will be held at a later date.

The family has suggested memorials be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
