Melanie Jan Strait, 62, of Viola, passed away on July 31, 2016. She was born on March 11, 1954, in Richland Center to the late Harlan and Maxine (Barlow) Sime.
She lived most of her life in the Kickapoo Valley, except for a few years in Burlington. She worked for more than 20 years at Kickapoo High School as a bus driver and also the head elementary cook in Readstown. She enjoyed raising dogs, especially West Highland White Terriers.
Survivors include her daughter, Maxie Marshall Phillips, Baraboo; granddaughter, Joella Jan Phillips, Baraboo; brother, Harlan (Patty) Sime, Burlington; sister, Lina (the late Harvey) Schaal, Burlington; her twin brother, Monte (Cheryl) Sime, Viroqua.
She was further preceded in death by her sisters, Merdes Jean (Theodore) Boggs and Rahna George, and her husband Richard Marshall.
A private ceremony has been held. Sime Funeral Home, Readstown, served the family.
