LESLIE ‘SAM’ ECKERT

Easter Lily      Leslie ‘Sam’ Eckert, 90, Burlington, died Feb. 21, 2016, at Waterford Senior Living.

He was born in Burlington on April 3, 1925, to the late John and Rose (Ketterhagen) Eckert. He was a lifelong resident of Burlington and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Aug. 19, 1961, he married Janet Rose Stohr at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pell Lake. Following marriage they made their home on the farm in Burlington where they raised their family. Janet preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2010.

Sam and his brother owned and operated their own dairy farm. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, going to casinos and watching the Brewers and Packers. His greatest love was spending time with his family and loved going to watch his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events.

Survivors include his children, Julie (Tim) Bartz, Burlington, Dan (Marji) Eckert, Mesa, Ariz., and Tim (Elaine Schalz) Eckert, Twin Lakes; grandchildren, Matt (Stephanie) Bartz, Anna Bartz, Nash Eckert, Gabrielle Eckert; great-grandson, Weston Bartz; sister, Bernice Beck; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Gene) O’Shea, Ruth (Jake) VonSeth; and dear friend Nancy; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his siblings, Rudy (Florence) Eckert, Roman (Leona) Eckert, Esther (Mike) Ruble, Mona (George) Bolger, Jeanette (Carl) Pachy, Don (Rosella) Eckert; brother-in-law, Bob Beck.

The family suggests memorial contributions go to St. Charles Church or School.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m., at St. Charles Catholic Church with the Rev. James Volkert presiding. Visitation is Feb. 26, from 4-6:15 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Burial is Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m., in St. Charles Cemetery.
