HENRY STEFFEN

Easter Lily      On a day when the sky was clear, the air was crisp and the hawks were soaring, the Eagle King took Chief Thundercloud to the Great Spirit. Machinist Mate 3rd Class Henry ‘Hank’ Steffen left this world. He was born Sept. 1, 1926, and died Sept. 28, 2016. He was born to the late Fred and Clara (Wurster) Steffen.

He married the late Mildred ‘Gizmo’ Wolff on May 14, 1949.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, earning the American Area ribbon and WW2 Victory Ribbon.

He was a charter member of Burlington Y-Indian Guides, Pony League baseball coach.

Survivors include his sons, Don (Nancy), Bruce, Jack; grandsons, Jason, Nate (Heather), Derek; great-grandsons, Mason and Nolan.

He was further preceded in death by brother, Ron Steffen; sister, Marion Heiser; uncles; aunts; nieces; nephews and cousins.

Machinist Mate 3rd Class Henry ‘Hank’ Steffen left this world the same way he lived it – on his own terms. He is now in the arms of his beloved Gizmo – fair winds and following seas. Godspeed Henry (we were a select few who could call him that).

Service with military honors and internment is at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m.
