ELAINE M. PELLA

Easter Lily      Elaine M. Pella, 94, Burlington, died peacefully on Oct. 7, 2016, at Pine Brook Pointe. She was born in Lyons, Ill., on Oct. 15, 1921, to the late Ernest and Fredericka (Wilhorn) Krueger. She moved to Burlington in 1931 where she graduated from Burlington High School.

On Aug. 30, 1941, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, she married Allen W. Pella. They made their home in Burlington where they raised their sons. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1979.

She worked for attorney Nettie E. Karcher and Foltz, Torhorst & Ludwig Attorneys as a legal secretary and at Burlington High School as a secretary. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she served on various committees. She was a member of Legal Secretaries Association and enjoyed traveling, reading and quilting. Her faith and family were very important in her life.

Survivors include her sons, Timothy (Anita) Pella, Burlington, Iowa, and Thomas (JoAnne) Pella, Burlington; grandchildren, Brian (Leslie) Pella, Matthew (Katlyn) Pella, Ben (Angela) Pella and Jack Meeker; great-grandchildren, Macsen Pella, Ian Pella and Eli Pella; and step-great-grandchildren, Ashton Meeker and Brynn Scott; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her brothers, Jack Krueger, William Krueger and Ernest Krueger; sisters, Clara Benke, Ella Balgeman, Lydia Goldbeck, Caroline Gleason, Viola Goldbeck, Edna Nickel, Ruth Alaxson and Dorothy Meyers.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Pine Brook Pointe, Burlington Aurora Memorial Clinic & Hospital, and Aurora at Home Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Services are Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kirk Lahmann officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be at the church on Oct. 11, from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
