DONALD B. VOS

Easter Lily      Donald Bernard Vos, 91, New Munster, died June 10, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Sept. 11, 1924, to the late Hugo and Grace (Kerkman) Vos in Burlington.

His early life was spent in New Munster where he attended St. Alphonsus Grade School then continued his education with Agricultural courses.

On May 31, 1947, he married Rose A. Daniels at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brighton. Following marriage they resided on their family dairy farm where they raised their children. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where he was a lifetime choir member and very active in parish committees. He served his community in various ways.

He was a volunteer fireman and held leadership roles in agricultural and community organizations. He had a passion for music and singing. He sang with barbershop quartet groups, and also sang with Stan Kerkman as they entertained together as ‘The Two Guys’ for 20 years. They sang at senior centers and for other special occasions. Passing along his love for music, Don loved ‘jamming’ with his grandchildren in his home.

Survivors include his wife; children, Ronald (Theresa) Vos, Leroy (Pat) Vos, Raymond (Carrie) Vos, and Arlene (Buck) Newholm, all Burlington, Jane (Tom) Schneider, Franklin, Ruth (Eric) Mueller, Arlington Heights, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Doris (Rich) Daniels, Germaine Eisenbart, Carl (Mary) Vos; sister-in-law, Rita Vos; brother-in-law, Norm Schultz; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by siblings, Leon, Bob, Art and Rosemary.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on June 16, from 4-8 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. A Prayer Vigil will be held following the end of the Visitation. Burial will follow service at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Memorials have been suggested to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
