DAVID SMANIOTTO

Easter Lily      David Smaniotto, 57 Salem, died June 24, 2016, at Janesville Mercy Hospital due to a tragic accident. He was born March 19, 1959, in Chicago, to the late Anthony and Dorothy (Mazzorana) Smaniotto.

Dave grew up in Tinley Park, Ill., and graduated from Tinley Park High School, where he was proud to be a Titan football player. In 1981 he graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in biology. He worked as a chemist at Chemical Waste Management then moved on to Brandenburg Industrial Services Co., where he had currently been a general superintendent.

He raised two children in Tinley Park with former spouse, Dianne Smaniotto. In 2008, he moved to Salem and in 2014 married Becky Biller. They spent their time fishing, planting an orchard at their home, gardening, and enjoying the fruits of their labor. They loved traveling to northern Wisconsin to spend time with family. Their favorite times, though, were hosting large family parties at their home. Dave was a man’s man. He loved hunting, fishing, building and fixing things, and he loved his job. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Dave was a gun enthusiast, and fervently supported the 2nd Amendment. He was a patriot who respected the American flag and all it represents. He was a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and the KC Chiefs. He was a family man, a protector and provider. He was passionate about his Italian heritage, which led to his interest in genealogy. His dream was to travel to Italy one day and visit the church where his grandparents married.

Survivors include his wife; children, Anthony (Cate Gardner) Smaniotto, and Monica Smaniotto, both Chicago; stepchildren, Danny (Kristin Kretschmer) Stroening and Bobbie (Jimmy Lehner) Stroening, both Salem, the love-of-his-life new grandson Jay; brother Tony ‘Gil’ (Rejeanne Derrick) Smaniotto, Western Springs, Ill.; nephew, Michael Smaniotto; niece, Olivia Smaniotto; aunt, Fran Frasson; loving cousins; in-laws; work family; very close friend, Frank Schveiger and Dave and Julie Plumb.

He was further preceded in death by his sister, Alva Smaniotto; grandparents, Eliseo and Maria (Agnoli) Mazzorana and Luigi and Alba (Maddalozzo) Smaniotto.

A Celebration of David’s life is Thursday, June 30, at 11 a.m., at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), Antioch, IL 60002. Interment will be private. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to a family memorial to be used for Dave’s many charities and causes, are appreciated in Dave’s memory.
