ARLENE M. MERTEN

Easter Lily      Arlene Margaret (Heinz) Merten, 86, Kenosha, died April 17, 2016, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care Center, Racine, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Kenosha, on Feb. 18, 1930, to the late Louis J. and Carolyne (Fuhrer) Heinz. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School.

On May 29, 1949, she married James J. Merten at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kenosha.

She completed two years of secretarial, business and medical classes at Kenosha Technical College. Throughout her career, she was employed at Jockey International, sewing; Kenosha County Court House, abstract department; Snap-on Tools, head order and billing; Kenosha Memorial Hospital, admitting; and Dr. Morris Segal, medical secretary, from where she retired.

She was a lifelong Member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mother’s Association. She belonged to the PTA at Lincoln Elementary School and served as the secretary-treasurer for several years. She enjoyed dancing, reading, watching news programs, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, playing bingo, cards, Scrabble and camping and traveling throughout the United States. She loved to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and attending family parties and gatherings.

Survivors include her children, Faye Lubniewski (Gerald Paterson, fiancé), West Allis, Lynn (Larry) Nolen, San Diego, Joy (Richard) Trapp, Racine, Mark J. (Melissa) Merten, Bakersfield, Calif., Michael J. Merten, Hollywood, Calif.; grandchildren, Ben Nolen, Anne Lubniewski (Johnathan McCray), Andrea Nolen (R.J. Richardson), Craig Nolen, Tyler Trapp, Michelle Merten, Joy Trapp, Mark Merten, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Serena Lubniewski Estrada and twins, Jared and Aria McCray; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Merten, Hot Springs, Alaska, Sister Mary Joyce Merten, SSND, Burlington, Carol Merten, Burlington, Betty Gaiser, Bedford, Ind., Joyce Clason, La Crosse, and Loretta Merten, Fennimore.

She was further preceded in death by her husband, James J. Merten; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul, Geraldine, John, Roger, Edgar F., Ralph Clason and Gary Gaiser.

Visitation is Friday, April 29, at Proko Funeral Home, 5111 60th St., Kenosha, from 5-8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday, April 30, at 12:15 p.m. for prayers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Interment will be held at All Saints Cemetery.
