RODNEY L. ANDERSON

Easter Lily      Rodney L. ‘Rod’ Anderson, 71, died peacefully Oct. 19, 2015, at his home in Burlington. He was born on Sept. 12, 1944, in Janesville, to the late Palmer Anderson and Lois Schiefelbein. He spent his early life in Janesville where he graduated from Janesville High School in 1962.

He was employed at General Motors while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in education, which he earned from UW–Whitewater in 1971. His first teaching position was in Fort Atkinson with junior high and elementary students. He came to Burlington Middle School in 1973 and taught art classes for grades 6-8. He earned a Masters Degree in professional development from UW-Whitewater in 1982 and equivalent graduate credits for a second Masters after that. He was the middle school yearbook advisor from 1987 until his retirement in 2010. His 39 years of teaching brought many positive and successful art projects to his students.

He was an active and proud union member of all teacher associations: National Education Association, Wisconsin Education Association Council, Southern Lakes United Educators and the Burlington Education Association. He was also an active member of the UW-Whitewater Cultural Affairs Committee for seven years.

Survivors include his sister, Judy Fraunfelder, Janesville; stepmother, Evelyn Anderson, Orfordville; nephews, Cass (Andrea) Fraunfelder, Winder, Georgia, Joel (Lotis) Fraunfelder, Southeast Asia, Patrick (Michelle) Fraunfelder, Elk River, Minn.; great-nieces and nephews; many teacher colleagues; social friends and close neighbors.

Services are Friday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m., at Plymouth Congregational UCC, Burlington, with the Revs. Jim Burd and Charlie Hanson officiating. Visitation is Oct. 23 at church, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial is Saturday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m., in Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.

Memorials are suggested to Plymouth Congregational Church.
