RICHARD J. LICHTENWALNER

Easter Lily      Richard J. ‘Dick,’ ‘Chief’ Lichtenwalner, 83, Waterford, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct. 4, 2015. He was born in Racine, to the late Jay and Emma (Kornhoff) Lichtenwalner.

He was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

He married Marlene M. Cable at Holy Name Parish in Racine on Oct. 16, 1954. He worked for Ostergaard Bakery in Racine where he developed his lifelong love of sweets. He was then employed by the Racine Police Department working as an officer as well as a detective for 26 plus years from where he retired.

He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family. After retirement they lived in Arbor Vitae and for past nine years in Waterford.

Survivors include his loving wife; children, Linda (Ervin) LaFave, Karen (Ulrich) Jentzsch, Jeffrey (Lorie) Lichtenwalner, Timothy (Joan) Lichtenwalner, Scott (Mary) Lichtenwalner, Connie (Gary) Myers; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Oertel; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua and brother-in-law, James Oertel.

A memorial gathering is Monday, Oct. 12, from 9-11 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 305 S. First St., Waterford. Memorial Mass begins at 11 a.m. Inurnment with military honors will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St. (Hwy. C), Union Grove, at 2 p.m., on Monday. Mealy Funeral Home, Waterford, is serving the family.

In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to the family. The family wishes to thank Heidi from Aurora at Home as well as the staff at Season’s Hospice for their special care of Dick.
