RICHARD A. BEHLING

Easter Lily      Richard ‘Dick’ A. Behling, 88, died Jan. 23, 2015, in Arizona.

He was born in Waterford, on May 2, 1926. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 on the Aleutian Island of Sheyma.

He married Carol Peterson on June 21, 1947, in Burlington. There he began his excavating career. From 1950 to 1956 he was the first operator at J. W. Peters Readi-mix plant. He and partners started Tri-Way excavators in 1956. He moved his family to Lake Havasu City in 1971. He worked for Colo-Rio Construction for 20 years before retiring in 1991. He was a lifetime member of International Union of Operating Engineers and VFW. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and a charter member of the St. Thomas More Council of Knights of Columbus in Havasu. He was awarded the Knights’ District Deputy of the Year for Arizona in 1992. His district included Bullhead City, Kingman, Lake Havasu City and Parker.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Luetta Donalds and Mary (Joe) Kamari; sons, Richard C, and Donald (Mary Ann); grandchildren, John Donalds, Elizabeth (Keith) Bridgford, Kristin (Evan) Youdall, and Molly Kamari, Richard P., Kyle (Jennifer) and Michael Behling; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Henrietta (Kortendick) Behling and three siblings.

Mass was held Jan. 30, at Our Lady of the Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Burlington, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Havasu or Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory, Arizona, is serving the family.
