Michael H. Rifken, 77, Burlington, died Jan. 30, 2015, at Burlington Health & Rehab.
He was born in California on May 15, 1937, to the late Samuel and Minnette (Ratzer) Rifken. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country.
Following his years in the military he went to college getting a degree in history. He then moved to Connecticut where he received a master’s degree in history, while teaching. He loved history, working with kids and getting them excited about learning and fixing things. With that passion he started his own business fixing AV equipment and computers for a large range of schools.
On Aug. 16, 1975, he married Margaret Waddell. They moved to Burlington in 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Peg; cousins; nieces; nephews; and friends.
He had a huge love for all animals and in his memory he asked that memorials go to Fellow Mortals, W4632 Palmer Road, Lake Geneva, WI 53147 or Lakeland Animal Shelter, 216 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn, WI 53121.
