JOHN F. COLEMAN

Easter Lily      John F. ‘Jack’ Coleman, 85, Burlington, died Feb. 4, 2015, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Burlington, to the late Vinton and Veronica (Granzow) Coleman. He spent his early life in Burlington where he graduated from Burlington High School in 1947. Following high school he attended a course in the fundamentals of banking before entering the Army in 1951. He proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Sergeant.

On April 24, 1954, he married Carol Alice Humbert. They made their home in Burlington before moving to Manitowoc in 1979. In 1992 they started spending their winters in Florida before moving back to Burlington in 2010.

Following his military service he attended various schools, classes and seminars to further his banking career. He worked at Burlington National Bank which later became First Bank & Trust as executive vice president from 1948 until 1979 when he became vice president at Firstar Bank in Manitowoc until his retirement in 1991. Over the years Jack was involved in a multitude of groups and organizations where he donated selfless hours and time. Among them was being a member of the Lions Club International for 60 years where he served as District Governor and State Treasurer and was one of the Lions Club clowns for 19 years. He was proud to have received the Melvin Jones Award through the Lions Club.

He was a member of The American Legion, Post 79 for 60 years and a long-standing member of Masonic Lodge No. 28. He loved bowling and fishing. Many memories were made while fishing with his grandkids in Wisconsin and Florida. He was a member of Plymouth United Church of Christ where he served on the Board of Trustees and as a moderator and treasurer. These are just a few of the things he did over his many years of volunteer work.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years; children, John Coleman Jr., Jeffrey (Janine) Coleman, Cheryl Coleman; grandchildren, Scott (Jessica) Coleman, Gregory Coleman, Bridget Coleman, Tom Coleman, Neal Coleman and Veronica Rodriguez.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations go to the Lions Club Eye Bank, 3834 County Road A, Rosholt, WI 54473 or Plymouth Congregational UCC.

Services for Jack are Saturday, Feb. 7, at noon at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. The Rev. Robert Wang will officiate. Visitation is Saturday, from 10 a.m., until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
