JOAN L. WERTH

Easter Lily      Joan L. Werth, 94, formerly Burlington, died Feb. 11, 2015, at Heritage Manor in Elroy.

She was born Dec. 28, 1920, to the late Walter and Esther (Hafeman) Hackbarth in Sheboygan. Her early life was spent in Milwaukee where she graduated from high school and attended Spencerian Business College.

On April 1, 1942, she married the late Marvin Werth in Dubuque, Iowa. Following marriage they resided in Burlington where they raised their family.

She was a member of Cross Lutheran Church for over 70 years where she was part of the Women of the Church, Naomi Circle, quilting group and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member VFW and DAV Auxiliary for 65 years as well at the American Legion Auxiliary for 45 years. She gave her life to others, her family, church and the community. She delivered Meals on Wheels, helped with adult literacy, the Burlington Arts Council and was a ‘picture lady’ in the schools, teaching children about fine art.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane (John) Clark, Elroy; sons, Tom (Penny) Werth, Burlington, Colonel James (Barbara) Werth, Hawaii; daughter-in-law, Dianne Fraser, Burlington; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Robers, Jeff (Stacy) Werth, Jared (Mary) Werth, David (Alana) Wagner, Julie (Patrick) Lohman, Stephen (Jennifer) Werth, Joe Wanat and Kyle Wanat; and 21 great-grandchildren.

`She was further preceded in death by her son, Ronald Werth, and grandson, Michael Werth.

The family has suggested memorials be made to Cross Lutheran Church.

Services are Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Cross Lutheran Church at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Carolyn Sellers presiding. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Feb. 17, at the church, from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be private at Valhalla Memorial Park in Milwaukee. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
