CHARLES L. RIGGS

Easter Lily      Charles L. ‘Charlie’ Riggs, 88, Salem, died Dec. 7, 2015, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee. He was born in Burlington on May 26, 1927, to the late John T. and Mary I. ‘Mamie’ (Stang) Riggs. He spent his early life in Brighton where he attended school.

On July 1, 1950, he married Lillian Mary Busch at St. Francis Xavier in Brighton. She died Feb. 15, 1975. On Oct. 23, 1976, he married Harriet Martha Wolf-Scherrer who preceded him in death on May 24, 2004.

He was a lifelong resident of Brighton and a farmer his whole life. He proudly owned and operated the Riggs Dairy Farm. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, the Pure Milk Association, AMPI and always participated in the Kenosha County Dairy Breakfast and hosted the breakfast in 1988. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers, woodworking, welding, gardening and anything working with his hands. He loved visiting with his family and friends. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed riding his John Deere tractors and his Little Red Truck. He also enjoyed attending Jeddy Fest in Brighton, as an honoree.

Survivors include his daughters, Elaine (Clayton Wagner) Burke, Gloria (Ross) Marshall, Carolyn (Fred) Krick, Mary (Clarence) Daniels; sons, Don (Sandy) Riggs, Cy (Annette) Scherrer, Donald (Joan Bursack) Scherrer; grandchildren, Brenda, Shawn, Carla, Brian, Paul, Matt, Lori, Jenny, Katie, Chris, Corey, Jason, Robyn and Kaleb; 17 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Don Busch; nieces; nephews; other relatives; neighbors and many friends.

He was further preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials go to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church or the Kenosha County Dairy Promotion.

A special thank you to Dr. Taylor and his staff, St. Luke’s ICU doctors, nurses and staff, and the Crane family for all they did to provide the best care and support during this difficult time.

Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m., at St. Alphonsus Church with the Rev. Terry Langley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends is Sunday, Dec. 13, from 3-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 S. Browns Lake Drive, Burlington.
